What engineering meant to me ?

Before, I started to rant on and on. Let me tell you a backstory why engineering inspired me when , ... well I am since a small kid

As you can see, I always envision the engineer as someone as this ; Wearing construction helmet, carrying toolbox and perhaps holding a spanner wrench to make the job done.

What reinforce me further of this 'coolness' associated with engineering is the game 'Red Alert 2' (Don't count in the Red Alert 3). Well, the engineer in that Red Alert 2 perform lots of important functions composed of capturing vital resource point such as oils derrick/hospital/tech lab/etc... , repair heavily damaged building instantly and even you can capture an undefended enemy buildings.
Heck, there is a very "dirt cheap" trick in using the engineers known as "engineer rush" using the 3rd functions. In early game, build the barrack and train as many as engineer and War Factory and build 1 I.F.V as soon as possible and send to enemy bases to wreak havoc on their economy as early as possible. It may be similar to Starcraft 'Zerg Rush'. . . . .

Okay,enough of the games.

In short, the engineers in Red Alert 2 inspires me what to become when I am grown up.

Engineering meant to me not just only a bright prospect to a better career or future but also it represent my dreams and passion in making the world a better place to live in. As you can see, many ,if not all of our items that we used daily are products of engineering. Such as the computer/laptop that you are using right now, the plastic chair you are sitting on , the handphone/smartphone and many more. All of these won't even possibly come to fruition without the contributions from many branches in engineering field such as for electronics , chemical , microwave, bio-medical, civil and many more. Now, entering the university realizes half of my dreams already and in just a few more months, I am very excited knowing that I maybe contribute back to the community.

For me, engineering is also create something out of nothing. Unlike science, we get the conclusive results from observations of repeatable experiments and creates theory from it meanwhile engineering is getting results from trial and error methods . Imagine, we wouldn't be traveled around the world in aeroplane if it not for the Wright's brother to repeat and repeat and repeat their airplanes prototype until it can flies or today the world would be in darkness if not for the Edison to invent the lightbulb. You may argue that Edison is an inventor but actually, that is another word for engineer. ;P

I will also like to stress out that engineer is also had tons of responsibility in hands.

Accidentally leaked out the company top secret info : Sacked
Such as the one of the Google leaked out the payment increase intel or leaked Iphone 4 prototype few months back

Designed an utterly useless products:Sacked
The antenna engineers in Iphone department whom designed an useless antenna when Iphone 4 is held tightly
are sacked and hence the Apple advertises for better antenna engineers
and many others cases.

Unlike a lawyer whom get his/her cut of fees when you loses the cases / doctors whom shirked his/her responsibilities in cases of misdiagnoses, An engineer had it worst as there are seldom a startups done by engineers....

In short, to those who are inspired to become an engineer, you can if you had
(i)   High intergrity and morality (Respect your team mates and family)
(ii)  Prepare for legal issues (Eventhough you design it yourself)
(iii) Financial Issues (Huh... Lots of =_= moments, where your idea is great but well you needed a bit of money . . .)

And thus, I signed out !
