In real life, there is absolutely no way you can make choices that enables you to do both two things at once or you can side with both parties at same time. If you can pull it off, congrats. If not, let's go back to the basis.
For example in this particular SC2 scenario . You are rebel commander who had a difficult dilemma into choosing two parties whom both is your close ally. One side is Dr.Hanson, whom is pretty doctor that you saved earlier in escort mission in Planet Agria; on the other hand is your old buddy Protoss, Executor Selendis who own the most OMFGWTFBBQ Mothership which will be used to purify the colony.
At times, you might face a situations where the you might lead to an life turning point where you had to make hard choices where each had its pro and cons.
Such as this, on one hand you have a pretty lady doctor, Dr.Hanson that you saved earlier from the Zerg earlier on your side pleading with you not to destroy the colony and on the other hand is your old ally ,Executor Selendis from mighty Protoss race that enforce you purge the alien infestation.
So, I share the my tips on how I handle this kind of situation.
(1)What do I had to lose from choosing this situations ?
This is the main criteria of making decisions as you had to decide which situations that let you to lose the least in win-lose situations.
In this case, we just see what the possible lose that we made from our choices.
Protect the colony
-The alien race, Protoss might be very very angry with you and that means only one thing, trouble.
Purify the colony
-The people that you tried very very very very very very hard to save in previous 5 missions will be destroyed by your actions. How very ironic.
(2)What I had to gain from this situations?
Of course, the situations that let you win the
most is the choices that you take. Why you must take the choices that you lose the most although it may conflict your core principle.
Protect the colony
-You will be a martyr for the people that you saved from the fiery purge.
-Doctor Hanson you tried very very very very very hard to woo *might* be smitten with your foolhardy bravery.
-The damn zerg virus might finally found its cure due to its breakthrough in Dr.Hanson research.
Purify the colony
-Your ally, Protoss will share some of their technological secrets with you.
-You can purify the colony from the zerg (cause add Zerg in the mix will give you big headache !)
*SPOILERS*
For me in this case, I just choose Protoss with consequences of the Dr.Hanson infest herself with the Zerg virus. Oh man !

There are times where you also faced situations where you must side with one party only where both are your close friends who had conflicting views on a particular situations
In this situations, you had the both Tosh and Nova whom one of them is your business partner whom helped you raked in credits from Jorium and Terrazine mining operations. Although, he is mysterious you can know for sure that the Emperor you are going to overthrow is also the one that Tosh hated the most. So enemy of my enemies is my friends. Right ?
Meanwhile on the other side, the sexy G.H.O.S.T operatives Nova suddenly spawn out of blue divulging all the secrets that Tosh held all along such as he is the former rouge Specters.
So in this case, I took another approach to solve this siding siding issues Help Tosh or Help Nova issues such as
(3) Who had been through with you along your journey of life?
The most obvious choice here is Tosh cause when you are strapped for credits, he appeared from nowhere to give you an interesting business proposal of mining jorium and also harvesting terrazine for his own use. But hey, ^_^ you get the credits for all the hardwork right ? Who cares what he uses that stuffs for ?
For the Nova part, she had been sending highly encrypted message all on your channels with untraceable messages out of blue claiming that Tosh is more than what he says. For me, she is quite more mysterious than the Tosh and we don't know about her affairs in capturing or even assassinate people. Plus she won't even assist you in your revolutions against Mengsk!
(4) Who had been through with you during in your hour darkness ?
Everyone also had its own bad day and when we need some observer advices, we had our Mr Tosh . He first sense that someone is already working for Mengsk already (P.S: It's Tychus Findlay) and also give advice about future of Korpulu Sector whether it is for better or worse. So why would someone gives you a free advice if they weren't your closest allies.
What about Nova? She claims that Specters are psychotic killer with neural inhibitor implants and meddling with my communicator = = . Spamming my Galaatic mail inbox with highly encrypted and untraceable messages. You are just another psychotic killer bitch !
*SPOILER*
In the end, I think I made the right choice, not only Tosh joins my fight, he even recruit volunteers for the Specter program too. I might think he is not the psychotic killer as I am told by Nova.
So, don't judge our big black brother just on the cover. Spend some times with them, and you will know they are still human in the inside
*SPOILER ENDS*
One more classic case. You can't do both things at once. There are one time where you had limited material, time to do both things at once.
You and your men are assaulting the hive world of Char and you and your men are both tired from the battles after battle. Before the final assault on the Queen of Blades. Two of your advisor suggest you to either sabotage tunnels or attack platforms to cripple their defenses. So which of you gonna to choose?
This requires you to be analytical to make a smart moves.
In the sabotage tunnels options:
- You will need less men to operate in this missions
- You will be able to field test the experimental futuristic warfare tech
- If the Nydus worm is successfully sabotaged, you will had less surprises of the Zerg attacking in your bases
-Plus you will destroy the countless zerg lair using mother nature against them. Thanks Hot Piping Lava.
In attack platform options:
- The air power of your force will have less opposition in dealing with Zerg air units
- You can cut off Zerg reinforcement from the sky and boost your air superiority command
-Who knows you might encounter some interesting Zerg creatures as big badass bio-signature creatures?
In this case, you had two choices whether to destroy Nydus worm which will transport zerg troops instantly to your home base or crippling the zerg air power superiority. :)
:) Alright there . Although there are sometimes in life where we pondered at the road not taken, hopefully you are able to make the wise decision so that you may not regret it in years to come or in this case the coming mission (Take Down Kerrigan !).
*SPOILERS*
I glad I taken down platform cause there seems to be no major air unit harrasement except the occasional "harmless" overlord flown into my base. It proves that my intuition is right for all 3 missions. And I had no guiltiness in choosing the path I take
